Children’s Vision

I have been examining children’s eyes for 20 years and at times parents and often the child are unaware that they are having difficulty with their vision. As a child you may think your vision is like everyone else and assume what you see is normal. Placing spectacles on they are often amazed at what they now can see, such as leaves on trees from a distance or clear words on a page or screen.

Having your child’s eyes examined before they go to school is vitally important for them to reach their full potential. Poor vision can affect their ability to learn and play sports. I recently saw an 11 year-old boy who is a high level tennis player, he is quite short-sighted and wearing multifocal spectacles certainly helped him in the classroom however was cumbersome for him on the tennis court. I fitted him with contact lenses and he loved wearing them especially whilst playing tennis.

Examining children’s eyes is different to adults with different testing techniques and I like to make it a fun experience. Regular eye examinations are important much like seeing the dentist as there can be changes in your child’s vision. Headaches, squinting, skipping lines when reading are just some of the symptoms your child might be exhibiting with common visual problems and as mentioned earlier they may have no symptoms.

For a comprehensive eye examination for your child you can book online or call and if you have any queries please contact me.
